Who Were The Favorite Receivers Of Green Bay Packers Legend Bart Starr?

Who Were Green Bay Packers Legend Bart Starr’s Favorite Receivers

One of the most famous faces from 1960’s National Football League football was the quarterback of the Green Bay Packers, Bart Starr. The Packers were the dominant team of the era, winning multiple NFL Championships and the first two Super Bowls ever played as well. During his career, he threw 152 touchdown passes, and many of them were quite impressive or game changing events too. Bart Starr was not statistically overwhelming, but he seemed to come up biggest in the big games. That, combined with his knack for not making many mistakes, made him one of the main quarterbacks that other teams had to worry about during the day. Who was his favorite receiver though during his career?

Boyd Dowler of the Green Bay Packers caught more touchdown passes thrown by Bart Starr than anyone else ever did. Dowler caught both short passes and long bombs for touchdowns during his career. He did have the advantage of playing the bulk of his career with Starr, having caught his first touchdown pass from him n 1959 and his last one in 1969. Dowler is not the most famous Green Bay Packers player ever, but it is probably safe to say that Bart Starr remembered him well.

Here are the top five receivers based on how many touchdown passes Bart Starr threw to them.

#1 – Boyd Dowler – 28

#2 – Max McGee – 25

#3 – Carroll Dale – 19

#4 – Ron Kramer – 12

#5 – Paul Hornung – 11

Seeing those names is like a walk down memory lane for anyone who remembers the true glory days of Green Bay Packers football. That era’s Packers were one of the best teams ever and quarterback Bart Starr was a big reason why.…

Why do People Abuse Animals?

Abusing is a form of showing cruelty in action. Since animal is not really related to human, animal abusing has been overlooked for quite some time. Some of the people keep pets just to release their anger or to release their tensions at work or at home. There are two types of abusing where one is via action and another one is in passive form. Passive forms include improper care to the pets such as insufficient amount of food and drinks, no proper shelter for the pets and never care about their hygiene. These are all the attentions which have been overlooked by the owners.

Why do people abuse animals?

Animal Meats for Trading

First of all, most people have the mindset of trading with animal meats. This might happen in the olden days where people were so poor and their main income came solely from animal hunting and trading. However, this is not the mindset we should carry today. People who want to trade animal meats for money will definitely treat them in poor condition. They will not be bothered to spend extra to provide good environment to the animals as their main intention is profit.

Animals for Film Making

There are lots of films making companies that include animal characters in their storyline. These companies will never really care about the animals. Sometimes, these animals were killed just to fulfill the storyline. Animals for film making are never treated like animals where some are abandoned especially their food supply and drinks when people are busy in acting. Besides acting, animals are also abused in most of the circuses. Although they look great performing on stage but at the back of the stage, the animals are all left in a small room with limited food. Some of them are injected just to make their body structure look bigger and strong. Worst case, they are beaten and trained forcefully for the sake of stage performance.

Animals for Guarding

Some of the animals such as dogs are adopted to guard the house, guard the farms and others. These animals will never get the chance to live in a good shelter with sufficient food supply. Most of the owners will just let the dogs scattering around to find their own food. This is the main reason where these abandoned dogs get diseases and sickness that will cause death.

Animals are just like human. They deserve the right to live happily in a warmth and great environment. Animals are cute in nature and are classified as human’s best friends. So, stop abusing animals and give them the right to live blissfully.…

How Today’s Voters Are Too Much Like Sports Fans

They will support their team regardless of how bad they suck or how terrible they are performing.

Teams have slogans that the fans will not only advertise for free, but actually pay for.

They will then wear the slogan loud and proud everywhere they go like a walking billboard.

When a fan sees another fan sporting the same logo as them, they become instant friends and agree about everything.

When they see someone sporting the rival team’s logo, they become instant enemy combatants and disagree about everything regardless of substance.

Scandals, cheating, bad performance, horrible track records and lying does not affect the opinion they have on their team. It only emphasizes the idea that someone is making stuff up, the fact that it was an accident, or it’s all lies.

One team’s fans will show up to the other team’s game just to show their team’s slogan off and let the other team know how much they suck.

If someone critiques your team, they basically just stabbed you in the soul.

If someone complements your team, you feel as if you have been personally complemented because you feel as if you are solely responsible for your team’s success.

When one team is winning, they belittle the losing team.

When that team starts losing, they attack and become violent to the other team’s supporters.

Fans will put their team’s logo on their vehicle so people behind them know how serious they are about that team.

When there is a traffic confrontation and the person who was at fault happens to be sporting a team’s logo, that person is immediately judged by the team they support and nothing else.

If a team won, it is as if it was a personal achievement among the fan and he was solely responsible for the win.

If a team lost, the game was rigged and the winner cheated.

Some broadcast agencies favor a team and give biased opinions that are claimed to be fair and neutral.

Other broadcast agencies make it their agenda to scrutinize every move a team makes, rendering them incompetent regardless of the true circumstances.

When someone who doesn’t have a team, is asked by someone who does have a team: “Who is your team?”

The smart person responds “I don’t have a team.”

That’s because the smart person does not need a team to force views and opinions into his head. He understands that politics should not be looked at as a partisan view where one side is bad and the other is good.

Politics must not be treated as a sport.

Politics must not be focused on winning

Politics should be focused on policy and substance.

And that’s it.

People despise the other party, not based off the policies, but loyalty to their own party. This is the same driving force that causes people to dislike other sports teams.

FSU fans do not dislike Alabama fans because they have good players, great plays, and good management… They hate them …

How to Choose the Best MMA Shorts

Just like the sport of mixed martial arts has evolved, so has the competition gear athletes wear during combat. During its humble beginnings as an underground, bare knuckle, anything goes format, athletes wore whatever helped them survive and win. This included anything from going shirtless to wearing full martial arts gis. With the emergence of the UFC came a minimal set of rules and standardization of gear as well as a wider, much more accepting viewing audience. Now, standard protective equipment include a pair of fingerless 4oz. gloves, mouthguard and groin cup. The uniform seen worn by most fighter is simple… a pair of fight shorts.

With mixed martial arts being comprised of numerous fighting disciplines, apparel worn for practice and actual combat must have certain features to accommodate whichever style the athlete specializes in. Regardless of individual style preferences or what discipline the athlete may have started with, fight shorts must have features that will allow both grappling and high kicking. While some styles of shorts definitely work better for certain fighting disciplines, there are still some general features that are must-haves regardless of what your favorite moves are. For example good fight shorts must have exceptionally durable material to withstand being slid and scrubbed against the floor and cage walls of the ring. Look for shorts with material that has an elastic property that will stretch against the bends of the hips and legs for the best range of motion. Shorts with materials that have less give may be very limiting for certain techniques.

When shopping for fight shorts, choose above the knee lengths to avoid trapping the material within the knee joint when grappling and ground fighting. Fight shorts should not be tight (unless they are compression gear) and best if comprised of slick type material rather than rough, canvas type to prevent friction against the mat or your opponent. The waist of good fight shorts should be comfortable but above all secure so they stay put. Some shorts have elastic waistbands while others offer Velcro enclosures but all should have a draw string of some sort for a tighter, more adjustable fit. Do not wear shorts with pockets or loops of any kind or they can get snagged during combat. Good fight shorts will be smooth all over the sleekest action and best performance.

If you want to be a pro MMA fighter, it’s smart to emulate what the pros do and copy what they wear when they’re in the cage. Even though your style of fighting may be different than theirs, doing this will at least give you a place to start. It seems the most popular MMA shorts are knee length and look like they could double as a pair of board shorts you also see surfers wearing at the beach. This style of shorts offer a comfortable fit with just enough snug in the hips but still plenty of room in the thighs to feel secure while pulling off all your moves. The …

Who Invented Track and Field? – A Short History of the Sport

Like many of today’s action sports, track and field has its origins in the first Olympics in Greece. When you begin to investigate who invented track and field, you find that, again, like soccer, track and field disappeared during the “dark” ages, and reappeared with modern organization during the 1800’s.

Since they did not have jeeps and tanks and trucks in the ancient world, soldiers took pride in their athleticism. Running was one of the very first competitive sports, and it is a favorite of today’s games as well. There is some dispute as to exactly when the Olympic Games began, with a gap in guesses from 776 BC to as early as the ninth or tenth century BC.

There was a gap in the games as well, during the Middle Ages. In 1896, they were again held in Athens, as organizers tried to bring back the ancient tradition. One feature of these games was what is now known as a “marathon race”. It was called “marathon” to honor the run made by Pheidippides in 490 BC from the Greek city of Marathon to Sparta. He ran the entire day in order to warn fellow soldiers of Persian invasions at Marathon. That distance was about 149 miles; today’s races are about 26 miles, considerably shorter. When London hosted the 1908 Olympics, their “marathon” run was 26 miles 385 yards (42,195 kilometers), from starting point to the stadium.

So, if you want to consider who invented track and field, you might want to give that honor to Pheidippides. However, bronze tripods were discovered that pre-date his run, to the tenth century BC, that some believe may have been awards for earlier games at Olympia. Or, if you want to look at the more sophisticated development of track and field, consider the year 1849, in England, when the Royal Military Academy organized their first track and field meet. Perhaps they should receive credit for who invented track and field?

Ancient games eventually expanded to include more races, boxing, wrestling, and a pentathlon with five running, throwing, and jumping events. In the US, organized track and field events date from the 1860’s. Collegiate and amateur groups were formed here in 1873 and 1888 respectively. Organized sporting events for men grew with the first NCAA national championships in 1921. Women, who had only recently received suffrage in the US, were included in the games in 1928. Making history, in 1952, the Soviet Union sent its first teams to the Olympics. The fierce competition between the USSR and the USA ran for the duration of the Cold War, over the next 30 years. In standard Olympic tradition, wars are suspended for the duration to enable all countries to participate in peace.

Today, favorite events include multiple sport competitions in the Pentathlon (5 sports), Heptathlon (7), and Decathlon (10). The Athletics Congress (US), and the International Amateur Athletics Congress determine the sporting rules. Games are limited to amateurs; professional athletes cannot participate or they are banned.…

The Importance of Vertical Jump Training in Basketball

As a basketball player it is important for you to jump high. Nobody is going to argue about that. Everybody who is physically healthy is able to jump, but to stand out from the rest of the world basketball players have to jump higher. Especially if they play in a team and have just the slightest ambition to perform well. So therefore it is important to focus on your vertical jump training.

Those athletes whose vertical jump is good tend to be better in their whole performance, not only at jumping. The vertical jump is a tool for more than just jumping. It increases the explosive strength of your body and the ability to use your strength and it also helps to show your power in your sport. In the world of sport the vertical leap is a way for coaches of measuring what kind of sportsmen they have in their team.

So vertical jump training is essential when you play basketball. Maybe you train with the whole team on that, but to get real results it is important to train your vertical jump four to five times a week. You probably do not train that often with your team – unless you are a pro – so the message here is to do a lot of that training by yourself. If you do not have instructions from your coach or trainer, you may surf the internet to find some good exercise programs. Some are free, for some you pay. You should also look up some basketball blogs or forums where people exchange the best tips on vertical jump training.

Make sure you give your legs a few days a week the rest they need. Or you need, more specifically. Getting a high vertical leap is not coming to you overnight; you have to work hard and long for that. So bursting out in a few weeks of seven days of training and then let go because you are fed up, is not the best way to go about it. To stay committed to the vertical jump training you must give yourself some days off.

Furthermore you must see to it that you eat enough proteins after an exercise session. That can be in natural food like grains, cereals, nuts, lentils or peas or by supplements. On the other hand you must also take enough carbonates and fat in to keep your body in athletic top form. Your club may have a diet advisor you can consult or will know whom to send you to. There is nothing wrong with hard training as long as you take good care of yourself.…

Building and Managing a High School Soccer Program

The following interview is with Coach Bill Bratton, who was my Soccer Coach at Cross Keys High School in Atlanta, Georgia for the school year 1989-1990. I asked him for an interview to share his thoughts on Soccer. He has been involved with Soccer for over 25 years so I wanted to pick his brain on the subject.

Stafford:

Hello Coach, you have been coaching high school soccer for over 25 years. How did you first get involved in the sport?

Coach Bill Bratton:

Hi Stafford and thank you. Well I started coaching soccer in 1982 in DeKalb County in my first year teaching at Sequoyah High. The previous coach had left and the school needed someone to coach. The principal offered me the opportunity to take over the program.

Stafford:

How was that experience for you and how did you prepare for this new role as a High School Soccer Coach?

Coach Bill Bratton:

I will admit I had never played or coached soccer before. In the off season I spent time preparing and learning by reading books and going to clinics. I will also admit that the players knew more about the skills, the formations and what it took to play the game than I did but it was the coaching organization of putting a team together to play as a team that was my strength. I really enjoyed coaching soccer once I mastered the knowledge I needed.

Stafford:

How long did you coach at Sequoyah and how did you end up at Cross Keys?

Coach Bill Bratton:

I coached Sequoyah for 4 years before DeKalb began a consolidation program and I transferred to Cross Keys in 1986. I had the privilege of coaching the Keys program for the next 20 years. I earned my Georgia class D coaching license as well as a Class C level National Coaching license from the USSF. The situation at Cross Keys was much like Sequoyah, they needed a new soccer coach and the AP who would become the principal offered me the position.

Stafford:

How was the situation at Cross Keys, and what did it take to build the program?

Coach Bill Bratton:

It took hard work and discipline to build the program. My job involved rebuilding a program. It had lost its organization, discipline was amuck, and the program was not winning, just 2 years from finishing 3rd in the state. I had to incorporate discipline into the program and to teach players what playing on a school competitive team meant and was needed to win. This progress was going to take many years to complete.

Players would tell me "Coach we just want to play". Cross Keys was a highly transient school. It was a constant rebuilding progress every year. They had no understanding of playing as a team, that they had to come to practice, to commit, and to be successful they had to play as a team. As I look back that took 2-3 years to get …
